Ayr Seaforth’s rising endurance star Sarah Cassells got an early Christmas
present when she was selected to run for Scotland at the Celtic Nations Cross
Country International in Cardiff on the 18th January. The 14 year old will
compete in the Under 17 Womens race despite only being in the first year of the
Under 15 age group.
Her Scottish vest caps a remarkable 2007 for Sarah who won the Scottish Cross Country title at Under 13 level in February as well as the Scottish Schools 1500m title in June and more recently took the West District Cross Country crown in the Under 15 age group. |

Despite a relatively low turnout of athletes there was some excellent racing at Ayr Seaforth’s annual Christmas Handicap races last Saturday. The Junior race saw only 5 young athletes compete over the 1.5 mile course. However, there was an exciting tussle with Kirstin Oakley just edging out Robbie Henderson to win the race. Sean Rennie had the fastest time overall while there were good debuts from the Under 11 duo of Lisa Rennie and Siobhan Rae.
The Senior race saw Adam Mackie reap the benefits of some recent solid training. Coupled with a generous handicap, Adam romped clear of the rest of the field to win the title over the 3.8 mile course in a time of 22:53. There was a good battle for 2nd place with Ayrodynamic athlete Dougie Munro managing to hold off Alex Allardyce who recorded the fastest scratch time of the day of 19:24. Laurence Baker was just behind in 4th place and closely chased home by the Under 15 athletes Finlay Rae, Sarah Cassells and David carter who were in good company with senior athlete Peter Laing. The President’s price for best performance of the day went to Finlay Rae who ran an excellent scratch time of 20:52.

racing south of the border at the McCain UK Cross Country Challenge Race Series
at Sefton Park in Liverpool. The standard of competition was exceptionally high
in both the girls age group races.
In the Under 15 race Sarah Cassells finished in 21st place over a 3 kilometre course in a time of 11:23 and very credibly was 2nd Scot home. Ayr Seaforth had a good turnout of young athletes for the Scottish Cross Country Relay Championships at Cumbernauld at the weekend despite the appalling weather conditions. The youngsters had to battle driving rain and wind over an extremely muddy and wet 2.5 kilometre course. The girls once again showed the boys the way with an excellent 11th place, the highest achieved by a Seaforth Girls team in many years. Emma Vallely made her cross-country debut for the club and ran an excellent opening Under 13 leg to come home in 20th position. She handed over to Sarah Cassells who once again demonstrated her class and top current form with a scorching run to bring Seaforth into 6th place. Stephanie Dougan found the going tough in her first year at Under 17 level but managed to battle to 11th place. The club managed to field 6 complete teams which secured 4 medals, including 1 gold. The Under 17 men took the only title of the day with a solid performance from all 3 athletes. The Scottish Cross Country season kicked off at the weekend with the West District Relay Championships. It was a considerably depleted junior squad which travelled to Irvine, with the boys team being defending champions from 2007. However, it was the turn of the girls team to steal the limelight as they put in a magnificent performance in the first race of the day to take the bronze medal. Seaforth road runner Toni McIntosh was the first lady in the Straiton fun run.
The 28-year-old Ayr woman raced ahead despite having a pulled hamstring.
The race was just over two miles with a 200m climb. Toni broke her course record, finishing in 20 mins 37 secs.
However, the extra strain on her hamstring means that Toni has had to pull out of the Great Scottish Run in Glasgow this weekend.
Ayr Seaforth flier Stuart Benson won the Scottish seniors 200 metres with a personal best 21.40 secs at Pitreavie on Sunday.
The 27-year-old RAF man followed up his excellent second in the 100 metres the day before when his 10.49 secs was another best.
In a great weekend for Seaforth, their under 15 girls team of Caroline George, Rachel Whittle, Rhona McGregor and Kendal Ross became Scottish 4 x 100 metres champions in a fast 49.93 secs. They just missed the national age group record of 49.46 secs and championship best of 49.3 secs held since 1990 and 1993.
Neil Burnside, 24, continued his great form at his new 800 metres event, taking silver in 1.49.2. Ian Kennedy, 24, showed signs of a return to form, finishing third in his 100 metres heat in 11.10 secs.
In the Scottish junior 4 x 100m relay championships, the under 13 girls, under 15 girls, under 17 women and under 15 boys all reached their finals.

Toni’s hands-on help for athletes
After spending two years blighted by illness and injury, it’s no wonder runner Toni McIntosh has a massive interest in recovery.
The former international athlete, turned personal trainer, spent her time out studying sports massage.
Toni, 28, is now able to use her expertise to help aid the recovery of her fellow sportsmen and women.
She is already fully qualified in basic body massage and will shortly complete a diploma in sports and remedial massage therapy from the prestigious London School of Sports Massage.
Busy Toni is now back to full fitness and causing a storm at 10k runs and half marathons all over Scotland.
She recently made her comeback in style, winning the Scottish Gas 10k over a field of strong domestic and international runners.
But away from running, Toni has an impressive sports massage CV – before she has even officially completed her diploma.
Toni said: “I have a fair bit of experience of working with athletes. I am a member of the sports science team of the Ayr United Football Academy youth teams and treated Bobby Stevenson, the Ayr Seaforth hurdler, in the weeks leading up to him winning the European Masters gold medal in Slovenia.”
Toni is offering sports massage from Eden beauty salon in Prestwick on Thursdays and Saturdays.

Two Ayr Seaforth sprinters competed at the highest level at the weekend in Birmingham at the A.A.A. (English) Championships.
Caroline George and Rachel Whittle, both 13, ran with great credit against the UK’s best in the under 15 girls age group.
Caroline finished an excellent second in her 100 metres heat on Saturday in a time of 12.73 secs to reach the final, where she finished a close 8th in 12.94 secs in wet conditions.
On Sunday, Caroline ran well in the 200 metres heat in 26.09 secs to qualify for the semi-final where she finished 6th, posting a time of 26.19 secs. She just missed out for a place in the final.
Rachel also ran well in the 100m and 200m, finishing with 12.00 secs in her 100 metres heat on Saturday, but leaving her best performance for Sunday’s 200 metres to finish an impressive 5th in the final with 25.9 secs.
The winner in the under 15 girls 200 metres, Jody Williams fromLondon, recorded a remarkable 24.45 secs and stepped up to the under 17 age group to defeat her elders in the u-17 100 metres in 11.48 secs – definitely a special young athlete for the future – London Olympics 2012? And Glasgow’s Commonwealth Games 2014?
Caroline and Rachel will also be challenging for top honours with this invaluable experience at Birmingham.
The final league match of the Central South of Scotland League was held in a mixture of sunshine and heavy showers.
The Ayr Seaforth Girls’/Ladies’ team competed well almost at full strength, which was necessary due to the greatly weakened Boy’s/Mens’ team suffering from too many U11, U13 and U15 Boys involved in the Land O’Burns Football Tournament at Ayr.
The final result on Sunday was not available, but it is hoped that the overall team performance was good enough to keep them in Division 1 next year.
Weekend Athletics; Sunday: The Ayrshire Young Athletes Team - Boys and Girls (U13, U15, U17) from Ayr Seaforth, Kilmarnock, Irvine, Arran and Girvan travel to Grangemouth for the prestigiousScottish Young Athletes League Final.
Due to the early start to the League Final (first event starts 11.30am) the team bus will leave from Ayr at 8.30am with pick-ups at Irvine, 9pm, and Kilmarnock 9.30am.
Well, we did it. Megan and I managed to run the whole South Ayrshire Autistic Society 10k – with a little help from some friends.
Megan’s step-dad Jim ran alongside her and my big brother Keith kept me going.
The heavens opened long before the race started but it was a blessing. Although we all got soaked, the rain kept us cool.
After a two-week holiday abroad eating fry-ups, over indulging in alcohol consumption and becoming nocturnal, I wasn’t convinced I’d even be able to walk round the course, never mind run it. But I surprised myself, my brother and our personal trainer Toni.
Dozens of runners turned up in support of the South Ayrshire Autistic Society, the grand total isn’t in yet, it’s hoped fundraisers have smashed the £3000 raised last year.
Although Megan and I were nearer the back of the pack, our competitive streak came out in the end and it was a sprint finish between us – but we finished neck and neck!
I’d like to thank lots of people for supporting Megan and me in our quest to get fit and raise cash for this worthwhile local charity. Of course, a massive thank you to Toni McIntosh, our personal trainer, who volunteered her services in order to get us fit in time for the run. Toni had her work cut out for her and has the patience of a saint!
Thank you to Peter Lockhart at Lockhart's solicitors, Graeme McKinstry at The McKinstry Company, Robert Logan at RA Logan solicitors, Fiona and Colin Grant at Top Chauffeur Services, Donald Ross at Donald Ross surveyors and all the individuals who have (so far!) sponsored us.
Gavin Park, who organised the event, wishes to thank Conn Lynch at William Grant’s Distillery in Girvan for the very kind donations of bottles, which acted as prizes for the winners. Gavin would also like to thank Tesco for donating water bottles to the runners, Mary Slaven who provided the first aid, Heather Swin who provided massage and John Scott MSP for supporting the event and getting it under way.
It’s not too late to support the South Ayrshire Autistic Society. Send cheques to SAAS 10k, Ayrshire Post, Nile Court, High Street, Ayr, KA7 1PX.
To find out about the services offered by Toni, including personal training and sports massage, contact 07758251047.
Or make an appointment with her by calling Eden Beauty Salon on 01292 292937.

The duo currently top the under 15 girls rankings in Scotland for 100 metres and 200 metres. With only one competitor per event, Caroline will compete in the 200 metres with Rachel in a guest 200 metres. Both Caroline and Rachel will also compete in the 4 x 100 metres relay for Scotland.
lSeaforth’s world masters champion Bobby Stevenson from Drybridge won the 400 metres hurdles in the European Masters in Slovenia.
His time of 61.34 secs left the field trailing in the 55/60 age category.
Bobby, 55, is now aiming towards the World Championships in Finland next year.
Ayrshire Harriers are through to the final of the Scottish Young Athletes Leagues at Grangemouth on August 17.
The team, comprising young athletes from Ayr Seaforth, Irvine AC, Girvan AC and Kilmarnock Harriers, stormed into second place – their best-ever finish – and beating Shettleston by more than 70 points.
Best performance came from Irvine’s John McCafferty who was awarded the match prize for field athlete of the day for his shot putt of 14.23m – the best throw in Scotland so far this year. John also won the discus and was second in the pole vault.
Kendal Ross won the 100 metres in 13.91 seconds and was second in the 200m in 28.62 while Nicol Adams won the U15 long jump with a 4.65m clearance. Sarah Cassells took the 800m in 2 mins 27 seconds.
However, it was a great all-round team performance, especially from those athletes who stepped in at the last minute. Their attitude was summed up by Sarah McNish who travelled through having just recovered from a bad cold to compete in the 200m where her third placve gained valuable points.
To cap a great team effort the U17 men's team won the last event of the match, the 4 x 100 relay race, to resounding cheers from the rest of the Ayrshire squad.

The 13-year old cross-country champ gave up playing football for Ayr United girls to dedicate her spare time to athletics and has been filling up her trophy cabinet since. Following her successful debut season in cross country, the runner is looking forward to her first campaign on the track where she will compete at under 15 level with Ayr Seaforth. Sarah, who has been into sports since a young age, is particularly proud of her triumph at the ScottishPower National Cross Country Championships at Callendar Park last February. She scooped gold in the girls' under 13 (3,200m) in a time of 12.22 minutes.
Sarah said: "That was definitely my best achievement so far. I trained hard in the weeks leading up to the race with my coach, David Rae, as well as my training partners and I am so chuffed at winning. "I always enjoyed doing athletics at school but it wasn't until my coach encouraged me to join Seaforth, as he thought I had great potential that I really thought seriously about competing. I haven't looked back since!" Sarah also holds both the Ayrshire and West District Cross Country Championships titles as well as being a finalist in the under 16 girls 800m at the ScottishPower Indoor Track and Field Championships. Sarah added: "My mum and dad have always encouraged me to participate in sports and I think it's important to have exercise in your life as it's fun but it also keeps you fit. "All my family are very active and my dad makes the effort to come out running with me, which is great. My granddad likes to claim that I get my running skills from him, as he was the Ayrshire schools champion in his younger days, which amuses me! "I always enjoy the ScottishPower events and hopefully I'll be able compete in next year's National Cross Country and beat my performance this year." If Sarah's hopes for competing in Glasgow's 2014 Games don't go to as planned, she hopes to train as a PE teacher. Sarah, who trains three times a week, added: "Having good training partners really helps, especially when there's a tough session ahead as we try to make it as fun as possible and encourage each other. "My advice for young athletes who are starting out is to just give it a go as you never know what it'll be like until you try. "Also, you need to be prepared to work hard at whatever you do and always try your best.”

lOn Sunday, Ayr travel to Linwood in Division One of the Central and South of Scotland League. Bus leaves at 10am.
The Cross Country season reached a climax last weekend with the IAAF World Cross Country Championships. Scotland was the host nation for the first time since 1978 and a number of Ayr Seaforth’s junior athletes travelled to Edinburgh for the event. In conjunction with Doonfoot Primary School the Club participated in the Adopt-a-Nation programme for the Championships and were allocated to ‘adopt’ Bahrain. Primary 6 pupils from Doonfoot did an excellent job of providing posters to welcome the Bahrain athletes and wish them well for the Championships. In addition there was an opportunity for a Seaforth member to meet the international athletes the day prior to the races, which was taken up by 13 year old Lauren Goldie. Her fellow training partner, Katie Sprang, was nominated to carry the Bahrain flag at the opening ceremony the following day.
Two Seaforth athletes were involved in racing. National Cross Country Champions Sarah Cassells and Finlay Rae ran for ‘Team Raven’ in the Welcome the World Relays. The team had been selected by CBBC’s Raven on the basis of their top 3 performance at the Scottish Cross Country Championships and ‘Team Raven’ gave the other competing teams had a 2 minute start. Both Sarah and Finlay ran magnificently on the anchor leg with Sarah bringing the girls team home in 10th and Finlay getting the boys into 5th spot.
Once again, it was a case of quality rather than quantity as Sarah Cassells travelled to Aberdeen as Seaforth's sole representative in the Scottish Young Athletes Road Race Championships on Sunday. In a fast 2.7km race run in blizzard conditions, the top three athletes showed their class by quickly opening up an insurmountable gap between themselves and the rest of the pack with Sarah splitting the two Aberdeen athletes. There was nothing to separate the top three until the final 3rd when the two local girls used their home advantage to open up a gap and take the top two spots. Sarah finished the race in 3rd place, picking up her 2nd medal at national level and confirming her position as one of the top young athletes in Scotland in what has been a remarkable debut season for the young Seaforth athlete.
Ayr Seaforth’s young athletes ended the indoor season on a high with all five relay teams qualifying for the Scottish indoor league finals at the Kelvin Hall on Sunday.
The under 15 girls and under 11 girls raised the roof with exicting victories.
All the finals were close finishes apart from the under 11 girls who won by around 50 metres.
Results: 4 x 200 metres relays: U15 girls: 1. Caroline George, Kendal Ross, Rhona McGregor and Rachel Whittle 1 min 47.57 secs.
U13 girls: 4. Ainsley Clark, Carolyn Harvey, Alice Arnold, Caitlin Gillon 2.05.1; U11 girls: 1. Ailie Shanks, Alison Harvey, Emily McAlpine, Katherine Trainer 2.12.04.
Ayr Seaforth’s junior middle distance star, Finlay Rae, scooped a fantastic bronze medal at the British Inter-Counties Cross Country Championships at Nottingham at the weekend. The Under 13 Scottish and Scottish Schools Cross Country champion ran a solid race and came through in the final third of the 3000m race to gain a podium finish and become one of only 2 Scottish athletes to medal at the prestigious event. The event is the pinnacle of the UK Cross Country racing season and Finlay’s performance marks the end of a truly outstanding season for the 12 year old from Doonfoot.
Ayr Seaforth athletes are chasing titles at the Kelvin Hall on Sunday.
The under 20 men, who have been hit by injuries, line up in the final of the Scottish Indoor League after qualifying from three earlier meetings.
And seven Seaforth teams, from under 11 to under 17 who just missed out, will take part in a separate 4 x 200 metres relay competition.
Ayr Seaforth had a good number of young athletes in action at the weekend as Irvine again played host to the Scottish Power Scottish Schools Cross Country Championships. Conditions were less than ideal, with strong winds and intermittent heavy rain adding to an already heavy course. Once again, it was Under 13 athlete and Belmont Academy pupil Finlay Rae who gave another commanding performance to take his 3 rd National Cross Country title in 2008 and confirm his position as Scotland 's best Under 13 male middle distance athlete. Whilst the finishing places were the exact same as the National Cross Country Championships in Falkirk two weeks previously, his winning margin over 3000m has increased substantially. Finlay's form and consistency since he lifted the Scottish Inter-District title in Edinburgh in January have been remarkable and winning all 3 races at this age group is a rarity in athletics. His current form sees him selected to represent Scotland this weekend at the British Inter-Counties Championships in Nottingham .
In the Under 14 female race Jemma McSheffery ( Belmont Academy ), recovering from a hip injury, ran strongly to take 11 th place. There were also notable performances from David Carter (Belmont Academy) who finished 28th in the 14-15 year boys, Katie Sprang (Craigholme) 35 th in the 14-15 girls and Andrew Rae who took 18 th place in the 15-17year age group over 5000m. Unfortunately missing from action was National Cross Country champion Sarah Cassells and training partner Stephanie Dougan as their schools had failed to enter them.

Ayr Seaforth starlet Rachel Whittle struck British silver in the AAA Championships at Birmingham.
The 13-year-old from Troon was second in the under 15 high jump with a leap of 1.56 metres.
Rachel now heads to the Kelvin Hall on Saturday as Seaforth chase medals at the 4 x 200 metres Scottish Relay Championships.
Five teams will be in action - under 13 girls, under 13 boys, under 15 girls, under 15 boys and under 17 women.
Ayr Seaforth’s young athletes were out in force at Callendar Park in Falkirk at the weekend for the Scottish Power National Cross Country Championships. It was a case of both quantity and quality as 16 athletes competed and 2 national titles were brought home to Ayrshire. It is well over a decade since an Ayr Seaforth athlete has lifted a Scottish Cross Country title and the club has never, in living memory, had 2 National Cross Country champions from the same Championship.
The first race of day was the Under 13 Boys. Finlay Rae ran a magnificently controlled race and broke away from his rivals on the final short hill with 600m to go to romp home 8 seconds clear and give Ayr Seaforth their first title of the day. There wasn’t long to wait before Seaforth supporters were celebrating for a second time as the Under 13 Girls race got under way. Sarah Cassells applied constant pressure to race favourite Kathryn Gillespie before making her final attack on the same hill as Finlay had done previously and was rewarded with an emphatic victory, finishing 14 seconds ahead of the rest of the pack. It truly was a remarkable achievement for the 13 year old who has only been training for just over 6 months. After a superb Seaforth double in the first two races local commentators were referring to the final climb on the course as ‘Seaforth Hill’! Both victories mark extraordinary progress by these young athletes during the current cross country season and are just reward for the dedication to hard training that both have shown. Both athletes will now feature in ‘Team Raven’ for CBBC’s Raven at the Welcome The World Relays at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships in Edinburgh on 29th March. In addition, Finlay has been selected to represent Scotland at the British Inter-Counties Championships in March.
The Under 15 Boys race demonstrated the quality that is evolving in Scottish junior endurance running and provided one of the best contests of the day. Seaforth’s Andrew Rae proved he is again getting back to a high level of fitness after injury and ran in the leading pack for most of the race, ultimately finishing in an excellent 9th place over the tough 4 kilometre course. His time would have placed him 2nd in the equivalent 2007 race. In the Under 15 Girls race, Stephanie Dougan finished in an excellent 31st place, taking a remarkable 2 minutes off her 2007 time. The Under 17 men’s race over 6.4 kilometres saw Scottish Orienteerer Alan Cherry run a strong race to make it home as first Seaforth athlete in 31st place. Overall, this was the largest contingent of junior athletes which Ayr Seaforth had fielded at a national cross country championship for many years and all acquitted themselves commendably.

Super Rachel Whittle clocked an amazing five personal bests at the under 15 girls national indoor combined championships at the Kelvin Hall.
Ayr Seaforth star Rachel, from Troon, romped away with the age group gold medal.
The 13-year-old’s overall 3173 points was only 33 short of the national age group record and was a personal best.
Rachel’s results were: high jump: 1st in 1.60 metres; long jump: 2nd in 4.74 metres (pb); 60m hurdles: 1st in 9.72 (pb); shot putt: 2nd in 8.88 metres (pb); 800 metres: 1st in 2.31.2 (pb).
Rachel now heads to the UK Indoor Championships at Birmingham in two weeks where she will compete in the high jump and 60 metres.
Fixtures: Saturday: Seaforth travel to Falkirk for the Scottish Power National Cross Country Championships.
Ayr Seaforth athletes were among the medals at the National Masters indoor championships at the Kelvin Hall.
Triple world masters 400 metres hurdles champion Bobby Stevenson, 55, dropped back to the 60 metres to win gold in an excellent 8.12 secs, just pipping Irvine’s John McGarry (8.13).
And in the M55 age group, he made it a double when he took the long jump with 5.29 metres.
David Phillips, 50, took two silvers in the M50 age group. He ran 7.92 secs in the 60 metres and 26.3 secs in the 200 metres.
Gwen McFarlane won silver in the W50’s shot putt in 8.95 metres. After a break of six years, Glen Harrower, 68, returned to competition to finish third in the M65’s 60 metres in 10.5 secs.
Ayr Seaforth could have three teams in the Scottish Indoor League finals at the Kelvin Hall on Sunday March 16.
The under 20 men, under 15 boys and under 15 girls are all well placed following the third and final meeting.
Striking gold with some excellent individual performances were Ailie Shanks, Caitlin Gillon, Caroline George, Rachel Hunter, Amanda Conway, Elaine Montgomerie, Wallace Graham and James Gaffney.

The spectacular setting of Holyrood Park in Edinburgh was on show to the rest of the world as it hosted the Bupa Great Edinburgh International Cross Country Race last Saturday. The same venue will host the World Cross Country Championships in March later this year. Whilst the focal point of the international races was the epic battle between world champions Kenenisa Bekele and Zersenay Tadese, Ayr Seaforth’s junior athletes were concentrating on the Scottish Inter-District Cross Country Championships which are incorporated into the event. Five athletes were selected to represent the West of Scotland and all did so admirably, attaining four top-10 finishes on the day and 4 team medals.
The highlight of the day for Seaforth and the West Team was a stunning victory by Under 13 Boy Finlay Rae who took his first national individual athletics title in fine style in a tight finish with Glasgow rival Max Aitchison. Finlay covered the 2.7 kilometre frosty course in a time of 9:49. In the same race, Angus Johnston had an outstanding performance to come home in 10th place in 10:41 and be fourth counter for the West team. The Under 13 Girls race saw Sarah Cassells make her debut at this level and she demonstrated what remarkable progress she has made in a short space of time in athletics. A fine performance saw her come home as lead athlete for the West but narrowly miss out on the medals to take 4th place in a time of 11:13.
Stephanie Dougan and Andrew Rae represented the Under 15 age group. Stephi found the going tough in the Girls race and finished 27th in a time of 12:28. In the Boys race, Andrew Rae put in a sterling performance despite recent injury to finish in an excellent 10th place in a time of 9:38 and was 3rd counter for the West team. All athletes will now go forward with confidence to the National cross-country championships in Falkirk in February.
Finlay Rae was interviewed live on CBBC Sportsround (BBC2) on Saturday after his win in Edinburgh.
It was a case of quality rather than quantity as only three Ayr Seaforth athletes got into the running spirit of 2008 and made the trip to Beith on January 2 for the annual New Year Road Races.
Sarah Cassells and Finlay Rae continued in the same vein as 2007 with comfortable wins in the under 13 races over 1.2 miles.
Both showed their class to win by more than 30 seconds with Sarah clocking 7.03 and Finlay 6.40.
In the under 15 girls, Stephanie Dougan took a creditable fourth place in a time of 7.21 over the same course.
All three athletes travel to Holyrood in Edinburgh this weekend along with Angus Johnston, Andrew Rae and Alex Oliver to compete for West of Scotland in the Scottish Inter-District Cross Country Championships.
Ayr Seaforth’s endurance squad were given a boost with the selection of six junior athletes to represent West of Scotland at the Scottish Inter-District Cross Country Championships at Holyrood Park, Edinburgh this month.
West district champion Sarah Cassells will compete in the under 13 girls race while training partner Stephanie Dougan got a well deserved call up to the under 15 girls squad.
Finlay Rae will compete in the under 13 boys race for the second consecutive year and will be joined by Angus Johnston who finished an excellent eighth at the West District Cross Country Championships.
Tri-athlete, Andrew Rae was recalled to the west squad after missing out last year and previously competing in 2005 and 2006.
Under 17 athlete, Alex Oliver, gains his first West District vest at cross country, having competed on the track for Scottish Schools last year.
Seaforth resume training after the festive break at Dam Park tonight (Thursday January 3) in preparation for the second indoor league match at the Kelvin Hall on Sunday.
The following weekend, the club will chase medals at the West District Indoor Championships at the same venue.
