It was the windiest of starts to the outdoor track and field season on Sunday. Storm Kathleen did her best to spoil the first Ayrshire Open Graded of the season, hosted by Ayrshire Seaforth AC at Riverside, but thanks to an amazing group of officials and volunteers we managed to pull it off! Disappointingly, we needed to cancel the Discus Throw in advance of the meeting as conditions were simply too unsafe at the throws cage.
Official results are live on Open Track. It wasn’t exactly PB weather for most events, however over 200 athletes from clubs across Ayrshire and the West of Scotland were pleased to get their outdoor season under way.
Unsurprisingly, there were fast times and quite a few PBs run in the 100m due to the strong tailwind behind the athletes. Matilda Jackson (U11G) improved the club record for U11 Girls in the Shot Put with a throw of 5.58m! Matilda’s hard work over the Winter with throws coach Craig is shining through already. Club newcomer Jamie Muir (U17M) had a fantastic first competition with an impressive leap of 1.57m in the High Jump.
Thank you to all of the officials and the people who helped on the day. TKEQ Photography took some fantastic shots of the athletes (samples below). For more photos, check in on their Facebook page where they will be uploaded.
