This past weekend, the National Indoor Age Group Champs took place for U13s, U15s and U20 athletes with U15s competing on the Saturday, U13s on the Sunday and U20s in action both days.
Day 1 – U15s
Track
Isla Milligan was competing in the 60m Hurdles as a first year U15. Her time of 10.54s was close to her PB but not fast enough to progress to the final.
Caleb Ghosh lowered his PB in the 60m sprint from 9.16s to 8.78s and then went on to set a new 300m PB of 45.25s later the same day.

Riley Fulton was agonisingly close to a Bronze medal in the 800m missing out by 0.01 of a second! His time of 2:14.14 was a 4 second improvement on his PB. Riley has gone from strength to strength in the 800m over the indoor season reducing his PB by 17 seconds since September!

Piper Jackson and Sofia Maclean were in action in the Shot Put. After her first round throw, Piper consistently threw over 7m with her best of 7.61m leaving her in 5th place at the end of the competition. Sofia had a tougher day with a best throw of 6.21m which left her down in 17th.

Findlay Ledger was competing in the Triple Jump for the first time. He surprised everyone (including himself!) with some fantastic jumps, taking the lead from the beginning. Sadly he was just pipped for Gold in round 6 by a more experienced athlete. Silver with a best jump of 10.27m. Congratulations Findlay!

Day 2 – U13s
Track
Georgie Watters and Eva McColm were first up on Sunday both competing in the 60m sprint. This was Eva’s first time over this distance and she posted a good time of 9.64s in her heat. Georgie managed to bring her PB down to 10.16s but with over 50 girls competing in the heats, the girls didn’t progress to the semi finals. Georgie was later running in the 200m and reduced her PB by almost 2 seconds in the heats.
In the 800m we had 3 athletes competing – Emily and Abigail Good, and Eva McColm. The competition was a timed final which meant that the 3 fastest times over 4 heats were awarded the medals. Our girls ran the 4th and fastest heat with the winner from Perth Strathtay winning in a new Championship Best time. It was Abigail who just pipped her sister Emily to take the Bronze medal with Eva finishing a close 5th place overall. It was a drama filled evening for sure! Congratulations to Coach Simon for having 3 athletes finish in the top 5!

We also had 2 boys racing the 800m where the winner also set a huge new Championship Best Performance. This was Lewis Watson’s first 800m race and he ran a brilliant 2:48.21. Caelan Fulton was not far behind in a time of 2:50.39.

Matilda Jackson was following in her sister’s footsteps in the Shot Put, and she was joined by Mya Doolan who was competing in her first big competition. Tilda did enough to stay in the top 8 and get an extra 3 throws. Her best throw of 6.77m matched her outdoor PB for the 2.72kg shot which was enough for 5th place overall. Well done Tilda! A fantastic result for a first year under 13 athlete! Mya also had a very good competition. She improved her personal best a few times as the rounds progressed, finishing with a best throw of 5.65m for 13th overall.
Riley Marshall-Watt was competing in his first nationals taking on some tough competition in the Long Jump. Riley managed to match his PB of 3.57m in the first round to finish in 12th place.

Anna Kirk was our only U20 athlete of these championships. She set a new PB of 62.37 in the 400m which wasn’t quite enough to progress to the final.
