Volunteer Induction

Thank you very much for giving up some of your time to volunteer at our club. It means a lot to the athletes, and the other volunteers! If, as part of your volunteer role, you will be in contact with children (under 18) or vulnerable adults, you will need to complete a PVG check prior to commencing your volunteering. This also applies if you will have access to members’ personal sensitive data as part of your duties. Your PVG check will need to be renewed every 3 years.

On this page you will find important information relevant to volunteering with Ayr Seaforth AC.

Health and Safety

Risk Assessments

All coaches are expected to assess risks before delivering any activity with athletes. This is covered in the qualification course. A standard risk assessment has been completed for track and field training at Riverside, however, risks need to be assessed and controls implemented at every session to ensure a safe training environment. This assessment should be completed by the Lead Coach. Track etiquette should be followed at all times to reduce the risk of injury.

First aid should be administered by a member of facility staff for any injuries at Riverside. Please go immediately to reception for assistance. A supervisor will escort the injured person to the first aid room. You can call a supervisor (number above) if needed.

Accident Reporting

Accidents and near misses should be reported to facility staff in the first instance. Please ensure that you make the Lead Coach and/or Coach Co-ordinator (Ruth) aware of any issues.

Fire Evacuation

In the event of a fire at Riverside, everyone should leave the building using the nearest exit and assemble at the middle flood light next to the car park

Parent Contact

If a parent needs to be contacted, please speak to the Lead Coach in the first instance who will facilitate this. Contact information is stored securely on the membership portal and only certain individuals have access.

If there are any issues, please contact Ruth on 07881943286 who can assist.

Welfare

The welfare of all of our members, athletes and volunteers, is fundamental to what we do at Ayr Seaforth. Currently, we have one Welfare Officer – Aileen Good who is supported by the Welfare Team at Scottish Athletics.

If you have an immediate and serious concern about the safety of a child, contact the police on either 101 or 999. Otherwise, the Welfare Officer would be your first point of contact if you have any welfare concerns.

It is important that everyone – athletes, parents and carers, volunteers and officials – understand and agree to the governing body’s codes of conduct. This document outlines acceptable and unacceptable behaviours, and the standards of practice expected.

The club has access to first aid and child protection training as part of our affiliation with the Club Ready programme. You can sign up for these courses yourself as and when they are promoted.

Training and Development

Coaching

The club will cover the cost of a level 1 and level 2 coaching course. To ensure that our training standards are kept high, we need good coverage of level 2 coaches. Courses are run every year in various locations in the West of Scotland. The Coach Co-ordinator will let you know as and when new courses are available to book.

Regional Development Days and Mentoring

Scottish Athletics organise Regional Development Days for a range of disciplines where you can spend time learning from experienced coaches. There may also be mentoring opportunities available, either with a club coach or a coach from other club.

Visit the Coaches page on the Scottish Athletics website for more information.

‘Club Ready’ courses
